Arina sat there staring at James all the while her cheeks turning pink. Despite the coolness of the room Arina felt like her insides were on fire. It wasn’t exactly an uncomfortable feeling it was more of a warm rising passion. She fought it down and sincerely hoped that James would come to trust her. Arina was determined to do some good to right the wrong she had done here, and even back in Runia. She may have started one war but she was going to end this one. Somehow Arina would send a dozen arrows into Aphine, hopefully that would kill the witch. She doubted it would do much harm though. A feeling inside of Arina told her that this witch was going to be difficult to destroy.
Lost in her mind swimming with thoughts and broken plans to free James, Arina didn’t see what was coming next. Then again, even if she had been fully paying attention it was doubtful that James’ move would come as expected. She felt his hand slip around behind her neck and pull her in till their lips met in a kiss. Her eyes shot open wide and her entire body tensed. Arina didn’t flinch or try to escape from the stolen kiss though. When James turned away quickly Arina sat as still as one of Jadis’ stone statues. She wasn’t aware that breathing was necessary until her lungs began to hurt. Arina inhaled deeply and blinked. Did that really just happen? Arina had received a kiss from a boy midnight elf before when she was ten but that was on the cheek. This kiss that James had planted on her was a full-blown kiss kiss.
Her lips gradually pulled into a smile. Arina’s eyes shifted over to James and seeing the fear reflected in his glassy orbs she couldn’t help but chuckle. She wasn’t laughing at him directly, but the expression on his face after what he did was cute. Yes, that was the word she was looking for. Arina felt the fire rise in her but it was that passionate fire, the fire that was a symptom of caring for James. She touched her lips lightly for a second before placing her hands on her lap folded together.
“Don’t be sorry.” She whispered. “Unless you didn’t like it, or didn’t really want to do that.”
Arina swallowed and cleared her throat. “I still remain true to what I said James. I’m going to save you, even if I have to die doing so.”
True, Arina would prefer not to die but if it meant redemption she would gladly do so.
