RORY BLAKE
Name: Rory Blake
Nickname: none at the time
Age: 16
Race: Human
World: Earth
Alliance: neutral
Celebrity Claim: Chris Colfer
Looks: Rory stands 5’10” tall with brown hair and hazel brown eyes. His most distinguishing characteristic is his mouth because of his full lips. His smile always tends to reach his eyes, he has fair skin and walks with a strange sense of pride despite being put down for most of his life. Rory was last wearing his school uniform when coming into Narnia, and he still has it. Normally when he wasn’t at school Rory would wear a nice pair of pants with some suspenders and occasionally a tie or bowtie. He tries not to show emotion on his face, and comes of looking full of himself most of the time.
Personality: Rory is shy and keeps to himself mostly because he has been bullied his entire life. He is very innocent and can be quite naïve about things. Rory has been alone most of his life and would latch onto anyone who would show him an ounce of genuine kindness. For this reason he can be easily trusting and wants to believe the good in people even if he has no reason to. This can be a bit of a paradox. Rory has seen the worst of people all his life, and watched as people pushed him away but he still wants to believe trust that others can be good and is willing to let people have that chance. He has a big heart full of great intentions but still remains guarded around others.
Rory has a fairly effeminate voice and is actually gay but because of society he is forced to hide who he is. It doesn’t stop the other boys at school from making fun of him and pointing fingers. Rory can have a temper but he is usually good at keep his anger under control so when Rory actually yells at someone; he has reached a breaking point. Rory’s attitude can be a little off putting at first. Because of his history with people and bullies, one could forgive him for not being so friendly right from the start. He can seem like a spoiled brat but that’s just a persona that he takes on to shut away his real emotions from anyone to keep himself from getting hurt. He prefers to seclude himself as opposed to larger crowds but does yearn for a friend.
Creating fantasy worlds is Rory’s forte. He spent most of his time reading novels about far away lands and creating many of his own that finding Narnia seemed almost too good. Rory thought he might have been dreaming or imagining Narnia, but after exploring and spending time there he realized that the place must be real.
Family: Emily Blake –mother
Henry Blake –dead
History: Rory was born in New York City in 1926, to an architect Henry Blake and museum curator Emily Blake. His mother was one of the first women museum curators and only got the job because her father owned the museum. When the economy took a dive Henry and Emily packed up their belongings and their son and moved across the ocean to London, England. They lived in a small flat, and both got jobs in their fields. Although instead of curator, Emily had become the secretary. Still, it put money on the table and paid for Rory’s tuition at school. When Rory got older he placed in a boarding school on the other side of London.
Rory hated that his parents moved him to London in the first place. He already didn’t fit in New York, and he fit in less now with all the other students. Rory was nine when they moved and the bullying started right away. They made fun of him for more than just his voice but because of the way he acted. Rory turned to books and writing in his spare time to take his mind off of how bad school was. On occasion, Rory would skip school and wander around the library or various museums in London. A few times Rory spent the entire day at St. Paul’s Cathedral. Rory is a smart boy and was able to keep up on his assignment that he missed.
Eventually his parents found out and sent him to a boarding school where he would have no choice but to attend classes since the boys were not allowed to leave the grounds without escort or permission. This didn’t stop Rory from trying to run away and his escape nearly got him expelled but his parents appealed to the school. Rory hated everything about the school as well as everyone in it. The ridicule didn’t get better save for the small handful of friends he had made. They didn’t last long as the other who threatened and mocked Rory soon started to do the same to his friends for being associated with him. This left Rory alone again with only books and made up worlds from his imagination to fall back on.
Then the war broke out. His father volunteered to serve and left Rory and his mother alone. It was only a few weeks later that they received a letter saying that Henry Blake had been killed in combat. Rory’s mother spiraled into a depression and Rory, at age 15, had to become the man of the house. A friend of his dad’s came over and offered to help while Rory and the other children of London were sent away to the country during the bombing raids. To continue his education, Rory was sent to another boarding school in the country and it was no surprise that he hated it here too. Even after the raids and when Rory was allowed to come back, his mother urged him to stay at school. Rory was so upset by the dismissal he elected to stay at the school even during the holidays. He only came back for the summer holiday staying in his room the majority of the time.
Rory has been back at school for about three months now and everything is still the same. People continually mock him for something that he can’t help but be. Rory’s biggest secret, and what others assume about him, he’s gay and knowing that it’s severely frowned upon and shunned he sticks to himself and tries not to bother others. He hates hiding who he is, but Rory has seen what it is like to be tortured and mocked for something others only guess at. If he was to confirm those rumors everything would be a million times worse. One day while walking the corridors of his school a few of the older boys came at him. They teased him and proceeded to call him names. They were walking by a broom cupboard and shoved Rory inside, successfully locking him in. Rory banged on the door and begged for the others to open it, as he was rather afraid of small spaces but he felt a breeze at the back of his neck. Rory turned to try and find where the breeze was coming from and behind a pile of boxes and buckets with mops sticking out of them Rory fell into a forest. Enchanted by the idea of a new and possibly magical world, Rory left the cupboard and his boarding school behind to explore what he would come to know as Narnia.
