Caspian had been spending most of the day in the village, doing his best to help the people anyway he could. Trying to help His people since he was supposed to be at least one of their leaders, right? He was the one who was meant to take the throne if no when the white witch fell. However as things stood now, he didn’t believe he was anywhere close to ready. Come on, it had been his horrible blunder that had released the horrible woman in the first place. He had no right to lead these people…
He had finally taken time to get away, making his way out of the village and out to the woods that surrounded it. He couldn’t handle the stares anymore; he just had to be able to spend some time where he didn’t have blaming eyes on him. He wondered why the Narnians still fallowed him at all, then again they could be fallowing the Pevensies not him. Who was really still almost a boy, when the Kings and Queens of old who may look young, ruled for years and where loved by all. He could only hope to gain that respect one day, even though as time went by it seemed to become a smaller and smaller chance that it ever would be. Ever since they had reached the village he had been trying to make amends, but exactly how much good would it do if he didn’t even believe in himself right now? If they did still fallow him, he had to prove to himself that he deserved their loyalty. Prove to himself and probably others that when the White Witch fell that he deserved to be crowned their King, and King who will give them back their kingdom.
He walked up a hill, a cross bow at his side since he had told them he was going to go find food as a ruse to get away. He truthfully was a little nervous about hunting now a days, sure he was great at it but now that he knew the Narnians he couldn’t help but worry that he was killing a subject or something. The way he was going he was about to become a vegetarian. When he reached a tree that had a pretty good view of the village below he took a seat under it and sighed. The White Witch was back in Narnia growing stronger while they were sitting here and…pretty much hiding. He couldn’t help find that a little wrong, just he also knew that they weren’t ready to face her.

Susan had never imagined that the White Witch would be a threat to Narnia again. She was sure that once Aslan had defeated Jadis nothing could bring her back. That was impractical though and now that possibility was a reality she realized how foolish it was of her to believe Jadis wouldn’t return. People as strong as her didn’t just stay dead, they always found a way to get what they wanted, no matter what. Now her family and all of Narnia had to find a way to defeat the witch after only narrowly managing to do it the first time.
What made matters worse was they had been forced to find refuge in a kingdom that wasn’t their own. Every where she went Su heard the whispered words of doubt. She knew that things were bad but now wasn’t the time to lose faith. Susan didn’t think she was likely to keep her optimism long with the dissension that was happening among her siblings and of course Caspian.
Accidents happened all the time and though they were hard to forgive that didn’t mean you shouldn’t. Caspian hadn’t been around to see the chaos that Jadis had caused. He didn’t know what she was capable of. All the Telmarine prince knew was that she was strong and could take on Miraz. About that much he was right. Sure he may have been the one to free her, but Caspian wasn’t the only person with something to lose here and Susan knew that the old words were true. Together we conquer, divided we fall. Susan knew it wouldn’t be easy trying to keep things civil and since the boys around her seemed incapable of remaining rational it only made sense that she would do what she could to keep them from killing each other. Lucy had always been good at keeping the peace but in times like these it was best if Lucy was safe.
Going into the wooded area alone was perhaps Susan’s best idea but she needed some place to think, somewhere outside of the city and most importantly away from her siblings. She walked with slow, quiet steps but even still dried leaves crunched under her riding boots. Her attention switched directions when she heard someone move and her first instinct was to reach for the bow that hanging across her shoulder. She didn’t intend to hurt anyone, Susan was just being cautious. That was when she saw him, seated beneath a tree, alone.
Part of her wanted to tell him that these were dangerous times to go off alone but there were a million reasons not too. He was grown, more so than her. Not to mention, he knew about the trouble they were in he played a part in it. There was also the issue of making herself look like a hypocrite. The real reason Susan didn’t say anything though was because she was afraid to make it seem like she cared. There was no way of knowing how long they would be in Narnia this time and Susan had never been good at goodbyes. The last thing she wanted was to make it all more complicated then it needed to be. She walked up to the area where he was sitting trying not to catch him off guard. That was a mess Susan didn’t want to deal with. “How is the hunting going?” she asked gently. Based on his expression though she got the feeling that was the last of his concerns.

Caspian looked out at the village and sighed a little to himself, he knew that Peter and Edmund where cross at him for such a grand mistake. Truthfully? If he was in their position he would be too. Just he had tried to stop it! Couldn’t they see? He had been a fool to go to Nikabrik, to trust him when he said he had friends who could help and after all the lives that had been lost in the castle invasion, Caspian hadn’t wanted it to happen again. Just when they had summoned the Witch, he had tried to run.. Tell them that was not what he wanted but the moment they cut his hand and placed him in the circle it was like he hadn’t had control of his body anymore. It wasn’t until it was too late that he had been able to move at all, his hand had touched that of the frozen witch and it was all over.
He was brought back to the present when he heard the sound of someone behind him. By the sound of the footsteps they seemed feminine, and human. Not sure of any human who would be a threat, but not wanting to risk anything his hand tightened on his cross bow like he was ready to pounce even though the rest of his body continued to seem relaxed. However a cold wind blew and he caught a faint scent of lavender and he knew who his visitor was, Queen Susan. He wasn’t sure if it was a perfume she wore, or possibly a shampoo but every time he had ever been close to her he had noticed a soft scent of Lavender. Not that he had taken the time to notice….
His grip on his crossbow loosened once again and he continued to stare at the view of the village until he felt her sit down beside him. At her question he looked at his crossbow for a moment before shrugging.” Truthfully I just said that so I could get away, after everything that has happened it’s kind of hard to be down there.” And around your brothers he finished in his head, not wanting to say it out loud and come off as disrespectful. That was one thing that had been drilled in to Caspian since birth that he should always be respectful to women and those of higher place then him, and currently Susan was both. However as time has gone by he couldn’t help but feel that he had grown to care for the woman next to him, possibly even more then her siblings. Just he did his best not to think along those lines too often, she was a Queen of old! What exactly would she want to have to do with a Talmerine? Prince or not. Like Peter had said, his people had invaded Narnia and on top of that it was his mistake that had brought on this war now.
“ I just came up here to try and think, but what are you doing up here, your highness?” He asked softly and held back the urge to warn her of the dangers she could run into up in the woods, but he held it back. One because it was up here too after all, and he also knew that Susan was a woman who could take care of herself.

Even though they had been in Archenland for some time now Susan still wasn’t used to it. It was similar to Narnia in a lot of ways but at the same time, very different. She could tell best in times like these, surrounded by trees and wilderness. Archenland just didn’t seem quite as alive. As she sat down the ground was cold beneath her and the light wind should have given her a chill but it didn’t. Sitting that close to Caspian she could feel the warmth radiating off of him and she had to stop herself from smiling. Being near him always gave her the strangest feelings but she knew better than to act on them. Now was not the time, no matter how much she would have wanted it to be. There was too much happening to be preoccupied with matters of the heart or whatever it was she was feeling. None of them could afford to be selfish even if Caspian seemed to be worth it.
Susan brushed a hand through her hair as she extended her legs out in front of her and then looked down at the town below her. Sitting in places like this always put things in perspective for her. She would never believe it was better to rule from above, detached from her subjects like this but sometimes it was important to see just how much you were responsible for. Sure it could make you feel an overwhelming pressure but it was also a good way to remind you of the graveness of it all and how many people were depending on you. It was easier to stay strong when you had a reason for it.
“Yes well, it won’t get any easier up here. The only difference is you are left to deal with your own worries instead of everyone elses.” The words sounded awkward, like the kind of advice her mother would give her after she did something wrong. She hated the way it came out, like she was talking down to him, as if she was so high and mighty. Susan resisted the urge to apologize, she was just overreacting. They all seemed to be doing a lot of that lately.
There was no hesitation when she answered his question. “I came to find you.” If she had given herself a chance to think over her answer instead of just saying as it popped into her mind she might have reacted a bit differently to her forwardness. Fortunately she managed to keep herself composed though. She had gone out to find Caspian but for serious matters, not because of school girl crush. “Things have been stressful lately. I was just wondering...how you’re doing?” Susan felt awkward asking. Conversations like these were reserved for Lucy and people who were much more, personable. It wasn’t that Susan wasn’t good at talking to other people – she had gotten better at it as of late – she just didn’t like to most of the time. It was a lot easier to be logical if you weren’t trying to be a part of every aspect of the matter. She left that to Peter and Lucy. Still it made the most sense that she would talk to Caspian and besides friends should be have been able to talk to each other with ease.
