Em had never understood why everyone of her kind had feared the woods, even after the discovery that Narnians existed. It was actually a rather peaceful place...if you weren't annoyed by the constant chirping of the birds in the trees, like the Telmarine was. They knew a couple of beautiful melodies but when they were just tweeting loudly in disharmony then it just gave her a headache. And made her want to pluck out one of her arrows and send a well-aimed shot into the foliage simply as a 'friendly' warning message. She would never actually hit one of them, just... politely encourage them to turn down the volume.
Anyhow, besides that small nuisance, and the fact that she had to keep looking over her shoulder for unheard dangers, well she actually found that she was enjoying her hike. And she referred to it as a hike because there were far too many hilly and steep regions in the area to simply call it a hike. Her feet sometimes had trouble finding a suitable path, and she'd fallen on her face at least twice, but she was still reluctant to give up on the journey. Returning to Anvard now positively meant certain boredom. She meant no offense to the people of the land, in fact, they were all rather friendly. But there was no opportunity for adventure or for the trouble-making that she was so fond of.
Usually by this point she would have caused some kind of commotion, but it didn't seem like a bright idea to cause trouble for the very same people who were trying to help you. No matter how entertaining the result might be (and Em could guarantee, it would've been hilarious). So instead of tying one of the more understanding Talking Beast's tail into a bow, or 'borrowing' one of the royals' horses, she had talked herself into visiting the very forest that Telmarines told their children scary fairytales about. She'd never been before, and wasn't now the perfect time to visit? Ignore the fact that the White Witch could turn up with her army at any random moment, and turn Em into a tacky, albeit still adorable, stone statue.
Humming quietly to herself, Em pulled out the few things that she'd packed with her. Those few things happened to be something of a early dinner for her since she had skipped two meals now just to get here. It was a long walk, and being herself, she had taken one or two wrong turns that had consumed more time than she had thought this adventure would take at all.
Turning over an apple in her hand, she took a big bite out of it as she surveyed her surroundings. "Not bad," She admitted, leaning against a tree and sliding to the ground lazily. "Even-" She scowled as the chirp of a bird interrupted her. "Oh shut your beak, it was a compliment." Huffing, Em shoved a strand of hair out of her face as she made a childish face at the tree branches above her. Yea, she really showed that toucan...or bluebird. Whichever.
